The Holistic Exploration Beyond the Movement Practice of Western Yoga Tradition

April 21st - 23rd, 2023

In-Person & Virtual

A weekend with Dr. Bob Butera of Yoga Life Institute, Kristy Schiano (IAYT, ERYT200, RYT500, YAECP), Gracie Gadeberg (ERYT500), & Brian Ethridge (RYT500)

Whether you are a yoga student looking to deepen your home practice, a yoga teacher seeking a greater depth to serve your clients, or a mental health practitioner in need of a holistic addition to your therapeutic toolbox, this workshop is for you. Join us for a weekend of Yoga Therapy and why the practice beyond asana is the key to complete wellness.

We have seen a great increase over the past few years in a collective search for greater control in our mental and physical wellbeing. The words yoga and mindfulness have become a fad on social media and across the Internet. Even entrepreneurial retreats have mindfulness training to better climb the corporate ladder.

Yoga practice in Western countries is usually concerned on the physical body with asana as the focal point. Most classes begin with a few moments of centering before diving into movement. Asana can be used successfully to access a deeper understanding of the holistic self, but traditional yoga teaches us that there is much more to be found beyond asana alone.

This weekend, we will explore the deeper teachings of yoga beyond asana practice. Dr. Butera will guide us through yoga philosophies, meditation practices, and the benefits of incorporating yoga into daily life. He will explain how to deepen your teaching experience and how to cultivate wellness through observation and self-reflection. His personal accountability approach to wellness empowers health-sovereignty and provides a path to self-discovery and restoration.

Participants who purchase the full workshop will receive Dr. Butera’s books The Yoga Life and The Pure Heart of Yoga. (Additional copies will be available to purchase during the workshop).

Our weekend will also include discussions with Kristy Schiano, a Yoga Therapist and graduate from Yoga Life Institute. She will be speaking about her personal journey into Yoga Therapy and how it can be used as a tool for self-healing. With Kristy, we will explore how Yoga Therapy can be used to assuage the manifestations of pain after traumatic experiences.

During the workshop, we will offer movement and meditation practices with the speakers. There will be additional practices with Gracie Gadeberg and Brian Ethridge. Schedule details can be found below.

The learning objectives for this weekend are:

  • Understanding how yoga education beyond asana practice is essential for holistic development

  • How Yoga Therapy strengthens the powers of listening and observation

  • The therapeutic benefits of Yoga Therapy in physical and psychological pain management

  • Understanding the value of mindset and how it relates to personal wellness, teaching, and your clients

  • How to take your teaching to new levels with seminars, mentoring, and a complete home practice

This workshop offers 14 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Hours

1:30P – 3:30P – With Dr. Bob Butera

Strengthening Your Listening Powers with Yoga Therapy

Listening deeply rarely exists in the age of information where friends sit beside each other on their phones. We will discuss how a quiet mind developed via yoga practice finds its roots in non-grasping (non-attachment) and how the quiet mind is capable of listening deeply. This helps working with Yoga students, family and listening to one’s own inner voice.

3:30P – 5P – With Kristy Schiano (IAYT, ERYT200, RYT500, YAECP)

Yoga Therapy Training as a Tool for Self-Healing and Client Improvement

Everyone experiences pain in different ways. Two people experiencing the same trauma will likely manifest and express their pain differently. We will discuss how Yoga Therapy is used to explore the manifestation of pain after traumas and how to best guide clients in their journey of self-recovery.

11:30A – 12:30 – With Gracie Gadeberg (ERYT500)

Down Regulation Practice

Our minds and bodies are being overwhelmed by the constant barrage of inputs from endless entertainment, the dependence on social media and 24-hour news, and the reckless combination of chemicals being advertised as food. This coupled with an absence of education on how to manage stress healthily, our health is deteriorating and an alarming rate. This practice is designed to combat the daily stresses you are exposed to and to teach you to self-regulate your nervous system.
